Blake's Clothes - Worst To Best

Just like in my previous Avon's clothes ranking, I won't be covering any thermal suits, spacesuits or other outfits that do not actually belong to the character in question. This is a ranking of Blake's personal wardrobe.

6. "Renaissance Blake"

WORN IN: Redemption (2x01), Killer (2x07)

I mean, what the heck is this lmfao? He looks like Henry VIII. It's obviously completely impractical and distracting. One must give credit to Gareth Thomas for managing to retain some sort of dignity whilst running around inside a tent.

5. "Bathrobe Blake"

WORN IN: Horizon (2x04)

This one is just kind of there... it's not the worst thing in the world, I guess. In design, it's similar to #6, but it's nowhere near as ridiculous. It looks comfortable enough to wear(I particularly love the linen shirt), but it's not exactly impressive either. Acceptable is the word.

4. "College Boy Blake"

WORN IN: The Way Back (1x01) - Time Squad (1x04)

I find this one particularly interesting. The costume design of The Way Back makes it clear that this is some kind of a Federation citizen's uniform, presumably denoting Blake's skillset as an engineer. Yet it becomes the basis of his entire fashion sense later on. In fact, Blake is the only one with any kind of consistency in his wardrobe until Series D. And all of it modeled after his Federation outfit. I suppose one could argue he was just used to it, lol. Or maybe it was a statement against them.

Anyway, the outfit itself isn't anything special. The buttoned up shirt makes him look a bit like a schoolboy, but the colors are pleasing enough and it looks very comfortable.

3. "Jedi Blake"

WORN IN: Shadow (2x02) - Weapon (2x03), Pressure Point (2x05) - Trial (2x06), Hostage (2x08) - Star One (2x13)

For much of Series B, Gareth Thomas's costume was the same basic idea executed in a variety of ways. It's a revamped version of his original Dome City outfit from the first few episodes of the show, with two different green leather vests, one clasped and the other not. Underneath the vest, there would be an incredibly cozy-looking loose linen shirt of green, blue or brown color(always with a handy zip), or a much less lovable turtleneck shirt. In Star One, the outfit also came with leather sleeves. Whether these were attached to the vest itself or woven into the shirt, I'm not sure.

I love the linen shirts. In fact, I might try and find some, if they're available. They're great. I think Blake looks best in the brown one, as it works well with the green vest. Speaking of the vests, I much prefer the unclasped version. It's basically a Jedi outfit. Those guys had it figured out. The clasped one with the bigger collar seems a bit stuffy and uncomfortable. I'm not a fan of tight turtleneck shirts at all, so forget that nonsense. It doesn't flatter Gareth Thomas much either.

2. "Roj Hood"

WORN IN: The Web (1x05) - Breakdown (1x10), Deliverance (1x12) - Orac (1x13)

Something of a stylistic oddity in Blake's wardrobe, but I think it works very well for him. It's straightforward, aesthetically pleasing and an obvious visual reference to the character that he's modeled after - Robin Hood. It's the perfect outfit for a down-to-earth hero.

1. "Boba Blake"

WORN IN: Blake (4x13)

What else could fit in this spot? The costume designer went to the effort of making sure Blake still looked like Blake whilst also updating to a meaner, grubbier era. I like how heavy the vest is - unlike some of the previous ones that appeared to be decorative, this is clothing that one would actually wear to keep out the cold. The little ammo/tool holsters attached to the chest are a terrific touch.

  1. I always saw the 'Roj Hood' outfit as his 'main' costume, it just seemed so him. It's actually weird to see just how rarely it appeared. Boba Blake would definitely make my No.1 spot as well, if he had to die, at least he died in style.
